Our school participated in the “Celebrating the 75th Anniversary of the Founding of the People's Republic of China cum Love Our Home, Treasure Our Country — Hong Kong and Shenzhen Schools InnoGala 2024” held at Wan Chai Promenade from October 4th to 6th. This event, supported by the Hong Kong Direct Subsidy Scheme Schools Council and the Grant Schools Council, attracted nearly a hundred primary and secondary schools from Hong Kong and Shenzhen, showcasing outstanding student innovation projects and achievements in STEAM education.
At the event, our school exhibited students' excellent STEAM works, including projects that have won awards in competitions, an introduction to school-based STEAM courses, and advanced teaching equipment, providing valuable opportunities for students’ learning and growth. Our school has always emphasized the practical application of STEAM education, encouraging students to engage hands-on, learn diverse technologies, apply design thinking, and develop coding skills. During the event, primary and secondary school students presented projects such as “Smart Farming System” and “Butterfly Garden” that align with interdisciplinary themes, integrating innovative technology into daily life to solve real-world problems and bring about change.
During the exhibition, the AR aviation experience developed by the secondary school students was the highlight among participants. The software designed by students using programming and cloud tools simulates flight scenarios using AR technology, exploring the principles of aircraft operation. Mr. Hayson Chow, in charge of the high school department, stated that to align with the national development strategy, the school used China’s independently developed large passenger aircraft C919 as a blueprint for students to learn about its design and operation, aiming to introduce students to the country’s achievements in the aviation industry and spark their interest in technological innovation.
Another attraction at the event was a game designed by our school’s MS1 students using VR technology, which guests could play using VR technology. The game was originally designed for use by seniors in elderly centers to promote intergenerational communication and interaction, enhancing students’ awareness of serving the community.
Additionally, students’ artistic performances were featured during the Innovation Expo. Our school orchestra performed on stage, entertaining guests with melodious pieces.
Teachers and students of our school were fortunate to participate in the three-day STEAM exhibition by Hong Kong and Shenzhen schools, providing the public with an opportunity to understand our school’s achievements and mission in terms of learning technological innovation, and further promoting the core meaning of the “Love Our Home, Treasure Our Country” activities advocated by the Education Bureau.
