During the school assembly on 22nd November, the Chinese History Department invited Dr. Michael Fung to give a historical lecture to junior secondary students titled “The Truth About Bao Zheng” (包公原來是這樣). Dr. Fung used a wealth of historical documents and illustrations to introduce students to many interesting historical facts and perspectives, including how Bao Zheng, in ancient times when technology and forensic techniques were not advanced, used wisdom to adjudicate cases and reveal the truth, allowing everyone to gain a deeper understanding of the real Bao Zheng in history. Through this opportunity, students recognized the upright and intelligent side of Bao Zheng, learning about his traditional virtues of integrity and self-discipline.
During the lecture, students were fully focused and listened attentively. Before the end of the lecture, student representatives, CHEUNG Yiu Chi Tavia and CHENG Hui Wang, posed some questions to Dr. Fung regarding Bao Zheng and the culture of the Song Dynasty. Dr. Fung was happy to respond, pointing out that the Song Dynasty had many delicious foods and culturally significant aspects that were very appealing, some of which have even been passed down to the present day.
